MALAKOFF EX-STUDENTS'
&
ALUMNI ASSOCIATION

WELCOME MALAKOFF EXES!

This is The Tiger's Den,
the official Web site of the

Malakoff Ex-Students' & Alumni Association!

The association's motto is "REUNITING THE PAST; SUPPORTING THE FUTURE".  This motto best describes our mission, which is twofold. First is to reunite old friends and classmates for a weekend of camaraderie and activities to meet the second part of our mission, which is to raise money to provide scholarships to MHS graduates.

This is achieved through members' annual dues, donations, merchandise sales and the annual exes reunion.

During the reunion, held on Homecoming weekend, we conduct several fund raisers to achieve our monetary goals.

 Funds are used to support
three $1,000 scholarships that can be used for vocational or traditional higher education needs.
Since 2009, we have awarded $10,000 in scholarships.

We have also provided financial support to other Malakoff area non-profit organizations. We have donated to the Malakoff Special Olympics, Malakoff Volunteer Fire Dept., Malakoff Historical Society and the Malakoff Education Foundation.

Since 2011, we have also recognized an Outstanding Ex of the Year. Past recipients are Kenneth Andrews, Homer Ray Trimble, and Donald 'Belly' Jordan.

Association membership is open to ALL Malakoff Exes including those that attended the old Lincoln High.

Annual dues are $15.00 / year and may be paid securely online through PayPal with any credit or debit card.

With your paid membership, you will receive a FREE association decal, a mailed invitation to the annual reunion and discounts on certain alumni events.

2014 MHS graduates will receive a
FREE, 1 year membership just for completing the membership application.

2013 Reunion an Outstanding Success!
It's over with once again. Over 3 days, we sponsored 5 events that were all highly successful, not only in terms of money raised, but in the overall sense of a job well done. Thanks to the reunion committee and other volunteers that made this such a great weekend.
Started off on Friday with our homecoming parade. When the band struck off, chills ran up my spine. Memories came flooding back of days so long ago. The parade wound from the ORS to downtown & back on what was the 'traditional' route. It was considerably shorter than the march to the high school. We will most likely go back to the HS route.

The game, though we had nothing to do with, was a success in that the Tigers increased their record to 6-0 after trouncing the Eustace Bulldogs, 54-10. WE saw many exes at the game & had a good night visiting at the tent.

Saturday morning saw 32 golfers tee off for our 4th Annual Golf Tournament & Fund Raiser at Indian Oaks Golf Course in Peeltown. The winning team, with a score of 56, was comprised of 90's alumni, Dustin Youngman, Justin King, Chris Cox & Kyle Harris winning $400, which they kindly donated back to the association. Rick Vieregge . Class of '73, somehow pulled off the closest to the pin trick & won $100, also donated back to the association. Longest drive winner for the 2nd consecutive year was Jason Green . Class of '93, & he donated $50 of his $100 winnings back to the association.
No one was close to the hole in one this time.

Later in the evening the annual reunion banquet kicked off with catering by Ochoa's. There were 140 exes in attendance ranging from 1940 to 2007. Oldest in attendance again this year was Inez Tanner Green, with Walter Jackson & Travis Robertson taking oldest males in attendance from the class of 1947. Jana Scot Pugh, Class of 1986, & Jeff Sneed, Class of 1980, were recognized as youngest though we did have a younger ex in Merideth Armstrong, Class of 2007, who was forced there by her mom, Julie Royall Armstrong. Traveling the farthest to attend was Jeanne Barnett Gillispie all the way from Tuscon. We also had attendees from Louisiana & Georgia. The program was outstanding as several exes were inducted into the Malakoff Historical Society's Sports Hall of Fame. This years inductees were Roy Gunnels, Donald Jordan, Deartis Nickerson, & Elvis Rogers. Followed by this ceremony, the Distinguished Alumnus of the Year award was presented, posthumously, to Donald Jordan, Class of 1956. His wife, Sharlene Jordan & brothers, Edward Jordan & Marcus Becky Jordan were in attendance to accept. The unveiling of the Distinguished Alumni Award name plaque will be kept at a permanent location for the future. Current names on the plaque are, Kenneth Andrews, Homer Ray Trimble & Donald Jordan. The weekend ended with a crispness in the air as several of us enjoyed the picnic at the Flagg House. The iPad winner was drawn by Terri Price Shelton & the winner was, Velma Wommack of Corsicana.
Bottom line, this was THE BEST reunion & most successful we have conducted in the last 4 years. We raised a lot of money for good causes. It looks like a record year in terms of money raised. Between dues, memorial donations, the golf tourney & the iPad raffle, we raised more than $10, 000! After expenses, we will realize a net of $5000 which will support our scholarships and other donations to local non-profits.
Recipients of donations from 2012 included the Malakoff Education Foundation, Malakoff Historical Society, Malakoff Special Olympics, & the Malakoff Volunteer Fire Department.
We hope to get more younger Tiger exes involved as we need your help & support to be able to continue into the future.
Contact your class officers to plan to attend our events  together as a class. We know how difficult it is to plan & fund a class reunion. Very few attend & the financial burden is often absorbed by one or two.
Consider starting a scholarship fund within your class.
We need more ideas and assistance to make this a memorable weekend for all Tiger exes!
Maybe we can sponsor other alumni events but we need your help. Alumni football, basketball, softball, band, volleyball, etc.
We're looking into sponsoring a new event next year, geo caching.
Using a GPS to find 'treasures' hidden around Malakoff. If you know anything about this past time, there are already numerous 'treasures' hidden around Malakoff.

Thanks to all our sponsors, whom without them, the financial burden of the association would be solely on members pocket books.
